A native of Castlebar, Barry who resided in Celbridge, Kildare passed away in the Beaumont hospital while he was surrounded by his caring family

Popular West Mayo native passes away in Dublin suddenly

The death has taken place of Barry Guthrie, Celbridge, Co Kildare and formerly of Castlebar, Co Mayo. He passed away on Monday, January 19 peacefully, surrounded by his family and in the wonderful care of the staff at St Claire’s Ward, Beaumont Hospital.

He was predeceased by his parents Mickey and Marie.

Beloved husband of Liz (Libby), dear father of Aaron and Stephen and adored grandfather of Amy, Michael and Caoimhe.

Barry will be sadly missed by his loving wife, sons, grandchildren, Aaron’s partner Hannah, Stephen’s partner Éilís, brothers Kieran (London) and Cory (London), sisters Pamela O’Donnell (Kilmeena) and Sandra Hughes (Castlebar), uncles, aunts, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives and his wide circle of friends and work colleagues. 

Barry who grew up in the Fr Meehan estate in Castlebar emigrated to London as a teenager. At the age of 17, he met his wife Libby, a native of Kerry and the pair got married in 1990. The deceased was a proud Mayo GAA supporter while also being a huge supporter of Liverpool. The Celbridge resident worked in the construction industry at Dublin airport. 

Family flowers only, please. Donations, if desired, to The Irish Cancer Society. Donations in lieu of flowers to Irish Cancer Society in Memory of Barry Guthrie.

Reposing at Cunningham’s Funeral Home, Celbridge on Thursday evening (January 22) from 5pm until 7pm.

A Funeral Prayer Service to celebrate Barry’s life will take place in Cunningham’s Funeral Home, Celbridge on Friday morning (January 23) at 10.30 followed by burial in Donacomper Cemetery, Celbridge.
