Leigh Cresham with his little daughter Lexie in hospital.
Six weeks ago, Leigh Cresham's life, and the lives of his wife, four young kids and family, changed in an instant. They are all going through an extremely difficult time.
For the Mayo man, it began as a frightening medical emergency and has turned into a long and uncertain fight for his health.
Originally from Castlebar, Leigh has been living in New York City for fifteen years. The 41-year-old fell unwell and went into the hospital with chest pain.
"They thought he was having a heart attack," explains Alma Cresham, his sister, speaking to The Mayo News.
After further tests, further complications have come up.
"At the minute, he's in an awful lot of pain. I actually spoke to him over weekend."
Leigh's whole life has been turned upside down. His partner is a stay-at-home mother caring for their four children, and with Leigh unable to work, their family is facing mounting expenses: Daily living costs, childcare needs, medical bills, transportation, and everything that comes with suddenly losing a primary income.
"I started the GoFundMe page because he's the main provider for the house and he's been out of work the last five weeks. And his partner takes care of the four kids under the age of ten. So there's no income coming into the house."
There is support coming in from Leigh's home in Ireland. He used to be a footballer for Breaffy GAA. Currently the GoFundMe stands at more than €20,000.
