The evening promises plenty of Christmas magic.
The Castlebar Municipal District, in conjunction with the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, is thrilled to invite everyone to join them for the magical moment when Castlebar’s Christmas lights are switched on this coming Friday, November 28. The celebrations will take place at Market Square from 6pm to 7pm, with a warm and festive atmosphere for families, friends, and visitors.
This year’s display will be extra special, featuring brand-new lights purchased under the Community Recognition Fund, thanks to the wonderful partnership between Castlebar Chamber of Commerce and Castlebar Municipal District. To ensure everyone can enjoy the festivities safely, road closures around Market Square will begin at 5:50pm on Friday, November 28, transforming the area into a welcoming space for families and young children.
The evening promises plenty of Christmas magic. Guests will be treated to enchanting music from the Castlebar Town Concert Band and the Mayo Children’s Chorus, while Celine King will captivate audiences with heartwarming Christmas storytelling.
Keep an eye out for special guests and festive characters roaming the square, including the mischievous Grinch, and enjoy seasonal treats as you soak up the holiday spirit. And of course, the highlight for many will be the arrival of Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, who has promised to make a special appearance to greet the children.
Speaking ahead of the event, Cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District, Cllr. Al McDonnell shared his excitement: “I hope all the children and parents have a wonderful evening and that the weather holds out. I would also like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a happy and peaceful Christmas. Please support local Castlebar businesses as much as possible during the Christmas holidays.”
Maria Staunton, President of the Castlebar Chamber of Commerce, added “We are thrilled to kick off the festive season with this magical event! The Christmas lights symbolize joy, unity, and community spirit. We warmly invite all families and our local businesses to join us in celebrating and making this season truly special for our town. We also encourage everyone to consciously shop local this Christmas to support our businesses and help boost our local economy.”
The switching on of the lights marks the start of a series of festive events in Castlebar, including Christmas Outdoor Movies from December 12 to 14 and Christmas Markets from December 18 to December 21 where Santa will be in residence to welcome families.
