There has been welcome news for Castlebar and Lough Lannagh visitors as Mayo County Council is looking for people to apply to run a coffee dock at the popular walking spot.

Castlebar Municipal District is inviting applications from traders interested in operating at newly designated trading bays at Lough Lannagh, offering a prime opportunity for local entrepreneurs to establish a presence at one of Mayo's most popular outdoor amenities.

The move follows the recent adoption of the Castlebar Casual Trading Bye-Laws 2025 and represents a significant step towards enhancing the visitor experience at the scenic lakeside location.

Annual casual trading licences are now available, with the council particularly keen to support "vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive local enterprise" at the popular walking and recreational area.

Application Requirements

Prospective traders must submit comprehensive proposals including a detailed description of their trading unit, a complete list of food or products on offer, and proposed operating hours and days.

Applicants should also demonstrate relevant experience in operating similar units and outline their plans for waste management and accessibility provisions.

Priority Criteria
The council has indicated that priority consideration will be given to proposals that promote healthy and sustainable food offerings while minimising environmental impact. Applications supporting local businesses and demonstrating inclusive, accessible design for all visitors will also be favoured.

Applications must be submitted by 5pm. on Saturday, November 1.
Full application details, submission guidelines, and evaluation criteria are available from the council, with further information available by contacting castlebarao@mayococo.ie.
