The Jack and Jill Charity Boutique in Castlebar is calling on to the local community this Halloween by collecting pre-loved costumes and spooky decorations to support children with complex medical needs.

Any gently-used costumes, accessories, or spooky décor can be dropped off at the shop to be resold in support of Jack and Jill’s vital work. The charity provides in-home nursing care and respite support to families across Ireland caring for children with severe learning disabilities, often linked to complex medical needs.

Store Manager Sinead Murray said the team is hoping for another “fang-tastic” response this year.

“Costumes often only get one wear before kids – and adults – grow out of them or want to try something new. Instead of letting them gather dust, why not give them a second chance to scare here in Castlebar?” she said. “As people start pulling out decorations and planning their Halloween looks, we’d love for them to think of us for any items they no longer need.”

Stacey Bohanna, Head of Retail at the Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation, said the campaign is not just about sustainable fashion but about making a real impact locally.

“Halloween is the perfect time to embrace shopping sustainably, and what better way than by donating or buying pre-loved costumes and décor in our boutiques?” she said. “Every item donated or purchased directly helps us support the 13 children currently under Jack and Jill’s care in Co. Mayo. Since 1997, we’ve cared for 107 families in the county. This campaign is about the community coming together to help local families in a fun, affordable, and environmentally friendly way.”
