The Mayo Historical and Archaeological Society will host the first in a new series of public talks on Wednesday, October 22, at Atlantic Technological University (ATU), Castlebar. The event begins at 7:30 PM.
The talk, titled "A UNESCO Global Geopark for Connacht: How Local Rocks Influence Our Natural and Cultural Heritage", will be delivered by Dr. Benjamin Thébaudeau, Geopark Geologist for the Joyce Country and Western Lakes Geopark.
Dr. Thébaudeau will explore the region’s rich geological heritage and explain how the Geopark was developed. He will also discuss plans for the area, as well as highlighting the roles of the geopark team.
Based in Tourmakeady, Dr. Thébaudeau has an academic background in Physics and holds an MSc in Geophysics. He completed his PhD in 2013 at the Department of Geology, Trinity College Dublin.
Membership of the society for the coming year will be taken before the talk and is open to all.
