Mayo venue set for packed night of music next week

Five of Mayo's most promising emerging trad musicians are set to take to the stage to showcase some brand new pieces of art next week, as Culture Night touches down in the west once more.

The 20th edition of Culture Night, which aims to showcase the richness of Irish culture nationwide, will see a plethora of events around the country, and Mayo is no different.

On Friday, September 19, traditional music enthusiasts, as well as those outside of the sphere, are invited to attend a special Club Ceoil in the Linenhall Arts Centre, Castlebar.

The event is running in tandem with Music of Mayo and Gaelcholáiste Chaisleán and Bharrraigh.

The event will see the five Mayo artists performing new music, allowing the artists to expand their musical horizons while simultaneously sharing their original work with the public.

The artists are Áine Wright, Diarmuid Swift, Fiachra Kilkenny-Hopkins, Hannah Lyons, and Peter Fox.

The event will take place at 4 pm.

Emer Maycock, the director of Music of Mayo, expressed her eager anticipation of the event.

“This project is about giving young artists the confidence and freedom to compose and arrange their own music," she stated. "By commissioning new work, we are encouraging the next generation to explore their creativity while contributing something fresh to Mayo’s living musical tradition.”

The event is free to attend, and all are welcome. For more information, please click here.
