Roadworks on a 3.5-kilometre stretch of Mayo road just outside of Castlebar is set to cause delays for a period of seven weeks.

In a statement from Mayo County Council, they confirmed that a significant proportion of the N5 between the county town and Ballyvary, in the Liscromwell area, will undergo road surfacing works from Monday, September 15.

The works are set to stretch for seven weeks, meaning they will be ongoing until Friday, October 31.

Both traffic management and speed restrictions will be in place on the busy route, which will likely lead to some delays for commuters.

Local diversions will also be in use for the durations of the surfacing works.
