This autumn, the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar is presenting an exceptional season of live music. Rich and varied, comprising folk, instrumental, and indie, with performances spanning genres and generations, it reaffirms the Linenhall’s reputation as a vibrant hub for eclectic and inspiring musical experiences.
Acclaimed American folk singer-songwriter ‘Mary Gauthier’ returns to Ireland for a highly anticipated showcase on Saturday, October 25, joined by special guest Jaimee Harris. Gauthier will perform songs from her widely praised new album, Dark Enough to See the Stars, alongside highlights from her extraordinary 30-year career.
This latest release hails Gauthier’s first album of all-original material in over eight years, following the Grammy-nominated Rifles & Rosary Beads, created in conjunction with wounded Iraq war veterans. Named “one of the best songwriters of her generation” by Associated Press, Gauthier’s work has been recorded by Dolly Parton, Jimmy Buffett, and Boy George, and featured in hit series such as Yellowstone. Her 2021 memoir, Saved by a Song, compellingly demonstrates the healing power of songwriting, and as Brandi Carlile remarked, “We need her voice in times like these more than we ever have.”
On Friday, October 3, the Linenhall hosts ‘Plúirín na mBan,’ a unique collaboration between traditional singer and composer Cathy Jordan, Austrian fiddle-player and vocalist Claudia Schwab, and contemporary Irish composer Irene Buckley. The trio merge traditional Irish music with ambient electronics, layered fiddle loops, and influences ranging from Indian classical to jazz. Their debut album, Female Rambling Sailor, explores narratives from a female perspective, a deeply original and emotionally resonant experience for audiences.

Celebrating its Six Year Anniversary, ‘Bridge of Song’ Castlebar’s beloved monthly listening event, returns to the venue stage on Wednesday, October 8. Established in 2018 by Eamonn Mulderrig to spotlight Mayo’s vibrant singer-songwriter community, it has since become a national platform praised for its intimate and welcoming atmosphere.
Marking this special occasion, is a headline performance by renowned Cork artist and RTÉ Folk Award winner John Spillane. Adored for his poetic lyrics, sean-nós-infused vocals, and deep connection to Irish tradition, Spillane’s music continues to resonate across generations. Accompanied by special guests, a truly heartfelt evening of music, storytelling, and celebration awaits. A fitting tribute to Bridge of Song’s enduring legacy. Also featuring in the multi-genre new season of music are: tremendous trio ‘Casey, McCabe and McGoldrick’ on Thursday, September 25; on Wednesday, October 15 classical reigns with the ‘Lir Quartet’; and join ‘Inni-K’ and her band in celebration of her fourth studio album, on Friday, November 7.
