Mayo’s National Museum of Ireland site had a government visit earlier this week, as Minister for Culture Patrick O’Donovan made a trip to the Turlough site.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Fine Gael TD made the journey west to visit the National Folklife Collection at the site, where he was provided a tour by the Museum Director, Lynn Scariff, Professor Cathal O’Donoghue, the Board Chair, and the Keeper of the Irish Folklife Division, Clodagh Doyle.

While there, he also heard about the future plans for the expansion of the 30-acre campus.
Minister O’Donovan expressed his satisfaction with the tour.
“I was struck today by the continued relevance of this collection in terms of preserving the skills, customs, and practices that are a part of our cultural heritage, handed down through generations,” he stated.
Lynn Sacriff, the Director of the Museum, was also pleased to welcome the Limerick representative to the site.
“I would like to thank our Minister for his interest in visiting Turlough Park and his engagement with the collection and staff based here,” Lynn said.
“We are also grateful to our partners in the Office of Public Works and Mayo County Council for their ongoing commitment and support for the National Museum in County Mayo.”
The Museum would like to remind everyone of the free admission to the site ahead of a busy weekend.
