On the day, live entertainment was available from Damian MacHale. There was also an arts workshop with a plethora of enthusiastic participants.
The day was full of enjoyment for staff, families, visitors, and, above all, the residents.
The hospital’s Assistant Director of Nursing, Helen Walsh, believes the event was vital for the residents.
“I am aware of research that demonstrates the benefits of art in older person settings,” she stated. “It is a catalyst for self-expression and can stimulate the senses with a potential to boost a person’s mood and self-worth.
“Whilst rekindling an old skill or learning a new skill, lifelong learning helps the brain to adapt and restructure itself by building new and more efficient neurological pathways.”
