One Mayo community is rallying for a key figure in the area. The Belcarra community is uniting for a very special cause  to support one of their own, Breege Canavan, a lifelong volunteer and beloved figure in the village.

A Benefit Dance will be held on Friday, July 4 at Breaffy House Hotel, with all proceeds going towards Breege’s care and the essential modifications needed to keep her home after a life-changing medical emergency. Breege has spent over three decades giving selflessly to Belcarra. From local development projects and charity events to her key role in establishing the Belcarra Lotto, her dedication has left a lasting legacy. Now, it’s the community's turn to give back.

In December 2023, Breege faced a sudden and serious medical condition that has resulted in permanent changes to her mobility. Although she has completed a rehabilitation program, her return home requires significant adaptations to her house and vehicle, along with ongoing care.

To help meet these needs, the Belcarra community has organised a Benefit Dance, generously supported by Breaffy House Hotel, who have donated the venue free of charge. Local entertainers, Concord Entertainment, Tomas Walsh and local artists will perform on the night, all donating their time and talent.

There will also be a raffle and an exciting auction on the night, making this not only a powerful show of support but a fantastic evening of entertainment. Tickets are just €20 and can be bought door-to-door in Belcarra, local shops, pubs and butchers including Cuffe’s garage. In Castlebar, tickets can be purchased at Master Carpets and and from the House of Plates restaurant.

All funds raised will go directly to Breege’s husband, Michael Canavan, to support the home modifications and care necessary for Breege’s transition home.

If you cannot attend but would still like to help, donations can be made online via the “Support Breege Canavan’s Return Home” GoFundMe page or you can click here.
