Mayo Director Richard Keaney alongside Rafael De Almeida at the Bedford Independent Film Festival
A Mayo movie director and screenwriter have been rewarded for their dedication to their craft as their movie landed the ‘Best International Short Film’ award at the Bedford Independent Film Festival.
Richard Keaney, who hails from Castlebar, and Ken Armstrong, also from the county town, scooped the accolade for his short film ‘Joey Had Never Been Out Of The City’ at the event in England.

The short film, shot in Meath and Dublin, revolves around a naive youngster called Joey and his accomplice Wayne, who go on the run after a robbery gets out of hand.
Mr Keaney travelled to the awards ceremony on Saturday, April 12, along with the film’s cinematographer, Rafael De Almeida.
The film will be shown on Irish shores at the Naas Film Festival on Sunday, April 20, and will be available to watch online in later months.
