Mayo gears up for Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle 2025

One of the country’s best loved cycle events, the Mayo Pink Ribbon Charity Cycle, takes place this year on Saturday, May 3, starting from Castlebar.

Now in its 16th year and organised by the Mayo Pink Ribbon committee, this event is a great day out for any cyclist, not just for the quality of the routes but also for the atmosphere and the warm welcome given to all participants.

The region explodes into pink as communities all over Mayo embrace the pink theme and the emphasis is on participation, fun, whole community involvement, support for each other and above all a passion to make a difference to the outcome of those receiving a breast cancer diagnosis.

Since its inception in 2010 almost 2,000 cyclists have taken part and have raised over €1.6 million in support of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute based at the Lambe Institute, University of Galway.

There are three routes to choose from; 52km, 70km and 110km starting and finishing at the ATU, Castlebar Campus. There is no cost to register but participants are asked to raise or donate a minimum of €100 (juniors €60) to participate as this event is a fundraiser with all monies raised going to support the work of the National Breast Cancer Research Institute. This year pre-registered cyclists will receive a complimentary Mayo Pink Ribbon t-shirt on the day (subject to availability) and a special medal of completion.

The cycle will be fully supported on route and participants can look forward to a hot meal after the event. The cycle receives incredible support from local businesses. Even schools lend a hand by holding fundraisers or decorating their local areas along the route.
