A Mayo primary school is in line to receive a six-figure grant for the development of a new astroturf facility.
Castlebar Primary School’s Senior Campus has received approval for €173,000 in funds that will go towards the development of the facility, which includes lighting and fencing.

The 3G facility will also be used by Castlebar Mitchels Ladies football for training.

According to Minister for State, the decision to decision to share the pitch with the local LGFA club was an important one.
“A central reason for this partnership is that they (Castlebar Primary School) are acutely aware of the drop off in female participation in sport from primary level onwards,” he stated in the wake of the announcement.
“This gives this project a unique opportunity to promote sport and physical activity in young ladies in particular.”
