Mayo town left without power after outage

Over 1,000 customers in Castlebar affected by power outage this afternoon with local council meeting also cancelled

Power cut confirmed in Mayo town

A MAJOR power outage in Castlebar has left over 1,000 customers and businesses without electricity this evening.

The fault which occurred on the Turlough Road occurred at approximately 4.09pm and has left an estimated 1,808 customers out of power. However, according to ESB Network's powercheck website, it is expected to be restored at around 5.30pm.

The power outage affected businesses and homes in the county town including the offices of Mayo County Council where alarms went off due to the outage.

The monthly meeting of the Castlebar Municipal District was abandoned half way through due to alarms ringing after the power went out and the decision was taken to cancel it and reschedule the remainder of the agenda for another date.
