Castlebar's Natalia Fasciszewska fights in the European final in Budapest this morning.
THERE is huge excitement in Mayo sporting circles this morning as Castlebar boxer Natalia Fasciszewska prepares to fight for gold in the European U-23 Championship final in Budapest.
Fasciszewska, who has six Irish titles to her name, has been very impressive all week with victories over Azerbaijan’s Aynur Mikayilova in the last-16 and Gabriella Weerheim of the Netherlands in the quarter-final before stopping Georgia’s Khuraman Kausumov in round two of their semi-final.
In this morning's 57kg final at 10.30am, she will meet Julia Serameto, the Polish champion and Olympic silver medalist. Serameto will come into the bout as hot favourite, but the Mayo woman is on a great run of form and will throw everything at the Polish champion.
