The proprietor of a popular restaurant on a Mayo island has announced that they will be 'closing its doors for the final time'.

The Currach restaurant located in Keel on Achill Island opened in April 2021 and operated on a seasonal basis from April to the end of October.

The restaurant was due to reopen following the winter break but Brian Murphy, proprietor of The Currach announced on the restaurant's Facebook page today that the restaurant will be closing after five years of business.

“After a great five years, The Currach Restaurant is now closing its doors for the final time,” the Erris-native wrote on the Facebook page.

“I’d like to say a big thank you to all our customers who supported us along the way. It’s been a pleasure serving you here on beautiful Achill Island and we’ve made some fantastic memories over the years.

“A special thanks as well to everyone from my home area of Erris who travelled up to support me — it really meant a lot.

“I also want to give a huge thank you to all my hardworking staff, past and present. Your effort, dedication, and teamwork made everything possible and I’m very grateful to each and every one of you.

“Thanks again to everyone who called in, we truly appreciate it.”
