A group of cyclists completed a mammoth challenge recently when a group of keen cyclists made the trek from Northampton to Belmullet while clocking up over 700km.

The cyclists, who include some based locally in Mayo and Roscommon and also the UK, raised funds for the work of the McCarthy-Dixon Foundation in Northamptonshire, and also six charities supporting communities in Mayo and the northwest region. Those were Erris Youth Disability Network (EYDN), Erris Family & Community Support Centre (EFCSC), Erris Heartbeat Defibrillator, Cara Iorrais, CLG Béal an Mhuirthead, and also North West STOP.

The challenge was organised by charity founder Teresa McCarthy-Dixon, her husband Anthony Dixon, and Paul Deane of Deane Roofing and Cladding.

The team travelled through the Midlands in the U.K on day one ending their day in Uttoxeter. On day two, the team cycled towards the Shropshire borderlands before making their way to the Welsh border.

On the fourth day of the journey, the team made the ferry crossing to Holyhead as they set off for Lisacul where they were welcomed by members of the community. On Thursday, August 7, the group finished their journey as they reached Belmullet where they were met with a heartfelt welcome from local members as well as friends and family of the group including some who made the trip over from the U.K.

75 % of the funds raised will go towards the Mc Carthy - Dixon Foundation while the other 25% of funds will be split between the six Mayo local charities. You can still donate by clicking here.
