It was a proud and momentous day in Northwest Mayo at Scoil Naomh Bhríde, Ballycroy as the school was officially presented with the Curious Minds Platinum Award by Science Foundation Ireland (SFI), in recognition of its outstanding achievements in STEM – Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths.
The prestigious award celebrates the school’s commitment to innovative, hands-on learning and excellence in STEM education.

The entire school community gathered to mark the occasion, which was made even more special by the presence of several distinguished guests.
Deputy Rose Conway-Walsh honoured the school by presenting the Platinum Award to the students, commending their curiosity, creativity, and hard work.
The event was also attended by Minister Alan Dillon, Cllr Seán Carey, and Cllr Gerry Coyle, each offering inspiring words of congratulations and encouragement to the students and staff.
Minister Dara Calleary added to the celebration with a heartfelt video message, applauding the school’s achievement.
A highlight of the day was the generous presentation of a high-quality microscope to the school by Martin from Wild Nephin National Park – a symbolic gift that will inspire further scientific exploration in classrooms for years to come.
Principal Leona Conway expressed deep gratitude to all those who contributed to making the day so memorable:
“Receiving the Platinum Award is a tremendous honour for our school. We are immensely proud of our students and staff and parents for their dedication to STEM education. Today’s celebration reflects the strength of our wider community in supporting the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators.”
This award places Scoil Naomh Bhríde among the top STEM-focused schools in Ireland and highlights the school’s role in fostering curiosity and lifelong learning in science and technology.
