Pupils of Scoil Náisiúnta Cheathrú Thaidhg joined and Circus250, Comhar Dún Chaocháin Teo for the Clean Coast Roadshow at Rinroe Pier
Clean Coasts joined Circus250, Comhar Dún Chaocháin Teo, and Scoil Náisiúnta Cheathrú Thaidhg in north Mayo for a special celebration and Clean Coasts Roadshow event at Rinroe beach.
This event, dedicated to handing over the Ocean Hero ‘Event of the Year’ award from Circus 250 to Comhar Dún Chaocháin Teo and Scoil Náisiúnta Cheathrú Thaidhg included a beach clean on Rinroe beach and Circus fun from Juanita the Clown.
The three groups were awarded a joint ‘Event of the Year’ at the 2024 Ocean Hero Awards for an event they held on Rinroe beach during the Big Beach Clean last year. The award handover ceremony was held on Rinroe on April 11 and included talks from Circus 250, Olivia Jones from Clean Coasts and local members of the community and national school, who work tirelessly to promote and protect this beautiful stretch of coastline in the Northwest of Mayo.

Clean Coasts officer Olivia Jones said of the event: “We were blessed with the weather as the sea fog lifted and Circus250 pulled out all the stops, with an amazing bubble show and Juanita the Clown leading the beach clean.”
This event was one of several events that Circus250 linked up with Clean Coasts for during April, celebrating the amazing work rural communities carry out along the coast, and encouraging the younger generation to care for and protect their coast through fun activities.
The Clean Coasts Roadshow is a series of informative talks and workshops tailored for coastal communities across Ireland, taking place between January and May each year. This initiative brings together individuals interested in protecting their local beaches, seas, and marine environments.
The Roadshow events cover a range of topics, including biodiversity, dune systems, marine litter, wildlife, sustainable developments, and the work of local groups and organizations. These events also serve as a platform for community groups to discuss practical matters, such as building volunteer capacity, attracting new members, and sharing responsibilities.
