A national basketball title is heading to the banks of the Moy after Merry Monk Ballina won the Basketball Ireland Development League Plate Final in Tallaght this afternoon (Saturday).

A strong third quarter saw Theo Daly-inspired Ballina secure a strong 70-53 lead going into the last ten minutes of a game in which the north Mayo side trailed 41-45 at half-time.

Cavan enjoyed the better opening half before Ballina surged, thanks largely to Theo Daly, who was awarded MVP after scoring 20 points and six rebounds.

Former Mayo footballer Ronan McGarrity and Ronan O’Malley finished with 22 points apiece as Merry Monk’s stellar third quarter drove them to national silverware.
