World leader presented with Mayo GAA jersey in historic moment

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney was presented with the Mayo GAA jersey by Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht Dara Calleary

The Mayo GAA jersey has once again been sighted in an unlikely spot, and was in the hands of one of the most recognisable world leaders in recent days.

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is a man with plenty of links to this neck of the woods. His family tree has roots all the way to Aughagower.

Upon his election in 2025, Mayo County Council extended an invitation for the Canadian leader to visit the county, while local TD Alan Dillon also floated the notion of a homecoming of sorts.

Now, another government minister has reignited the links between Carney and the West.

Upon his trans-Atlantic visit as part of the government's mission to promote trade and the national economy, Minister Dara Calleary met with the Prime Minister.

At the event, there were plenty of smiles as the Fianna Fail Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, presented Carney with a large Mayo GAA jersey.
