Mayo man Martin Hughes has taken up the position as Clerk of Seanad Éireann.
Mr. Hughes from Ballina has served in the Houses of the Oireachtas for eight years and takes over from Martin Groves who retired recently.
Hughes has worked in a number of different roles during his time in the Oireachtas, including as Clerk to the Public Accounts Committee.
A former student of Scoil Padraig and St Muredach's College, he was welcomed to the position by Senator Mark Duffy, both of whom grew up as neighbours on the Killala Road.
"The role of Clerk of the Seanad is a one of most senior positions in the Oireachtas and it is in safe hands with Martin. It is a testament to his professionalism and dedication to public service. I wish him well in his new role and look forward to working with him."
