Mayo town left mourning after passing of popular young man

Funeral will arrive to St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina on Saturday afternoon for Requiem Mass at 1.30pm followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery.

In the recent days Ballina and the surrounding areas have been left mourning after the passing of Richard Loftus.

Richard passed away on his birthday peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family. 

Richard was the beloved eldest son of Marc and Deirdre and an amazing big brother to Harry, Chloe and Zara. He will be  dearly missed by his heartbroken family, grandparents Mary Loftus and John Duffy, his extended family and large circle of wonderful friends. 

At Ballina RFC a cloud of sadness drifted across the rugby-family and club President, Daragh Quinn put into words what all were feeling.

"Sadly, Richard Loftus, son of Marc and Deirdre (nee Duffy), brother of Harry, Chloe and Zara, a wonderful young member of our club, has passed away after battling illness very bravely. Richard's passing brings great sadness to his family, our club and our community. Richard and his family have been at the epicentre of everything in Ballina Rugby Club for all of his short life. The Loftus family are in the midst of our thoughts and prayers at this sad time."

Ballina Stephenites GAA club also paid tribute on their social media platforms as their post stated “It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Richard Loftus. Richard represented the club with distinction at underage level and is fondly remembered by his former teammates and all associated with Ballina Stephenites. A true gentleman, Richard will always be held in the highest regard and remembered with deep affection.”

Richard will repose at McGowan’s Funeral home, Ballina (F26 V274) on Friday evening from 5-7pm.

Funeral will arrive to St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina on Saturday afternoon for Requiem Mass at 1.30pm followed by burial in Leigue Cemetery.

Funeral Mass will be live streamed on www.ballinaparish.orgHouse Strictly Private Please.
