Hollister ULC in Ballina is celebrating after a very successful evening at the prestigious Green Awards at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin last week. Bourke Waste Removal Limited played a central role as Hollister walked away with the Green Collaboration Award, outperforming strong contenders such as The Musgrave Group, Deloitte, and SSE Airtricity.

“We were absolutely delighted to be part of such an innovative project with Hollister, and we're overjoyed that the judges saw the huge environmental benefits it delivered. To be part of such a special night with great people was fantastic,” Stanley Bourke, Managing Director of Bourke Waste, told The Mayo News.

Hollister and the Bourkes had worked together on a project that introduced greater efficiency to the company's waste management process. That was recognised at the awards ceremony, where businesses and individuals from across the country were acknowledged for their innovative projects.

The Hollister project focused on waste process transformation and yielded impressive results. The Ballina-based company conducted a waste stream analysis in collaboration with Bourkes and identified inefficiencies throughout the process.

Partnership

Before the project began, there were eight steps involved in the waste process. Following a detailed review, many opportunities for improvement became apparent. Hollister and Bourke Waste worked in partnership with Moovmor and EWA Controls to devise a solution - ultimately reducing the process to just three steps. The environmental benefits included eliminating 10,800 bin liners annually and removing 2,500 timber pallets from the process each year.

“In summary, the project between Hollister and Bourke Waste translates to a direct saving of over €100,000 and 55 tons of CO2 per annum—the same as removing 11,000 cars from the road,” said Paul O’Malley, Director of Plant Operations, Hollister, Ballina.

“Hollister is extremely proud to have won two prizes at the 2025 Green Awards for transforming our waste handling systems with Bourke Waste, Moovmor, and EWA Controls. The Green Collaboration and Green Transformation awards highlight our commitment to sustainable solutions through teamwork and innovation. At Hollister, sustainability is more than a goal - it’s a commitment backed by action,” O’Malley added.

There was further Mayo success at the awards ceremony in Dublin when Abbvie were winners of the Green Large Organisation of the Year for industries with more than one thousand employees.
