MAYO athlete Freya Renton took home yet another gold medal for Ireland by beating her nearest opponent by 23 seconds.
The Westport AC star gave a sensational performance to take the gold medal in the Intermediate Girls 4,000m event at the SIAB Schools International cross country championship.
Her competitors tried to stay on terms with her in the early stages, but Renton extended her twenty-five-metre lead after the first kilometre as the race progressed.

England’s Jasmine Christmas and Kitty Scott tried to hang on to Renton’s early pace but had to settle for second and third as the Westport superstar finished with a time of 00:13:54 - 23 seconds ahead of second-place Christmas.
Freya’s sister, Holly, put in a solid performance to finish sixth with a time of 00:14:32.
The Rentons and fellow Westport AC member May Duckett were part of an Ireland team that secured a team silver medal at the championships, which took place in Falkirk in Scotland over the weekend.
The Ireland team won an impressive six team silver medals (Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Intermediate Girls, Intermediate Boys, Mixed Junior Relay and Mixed Inter Relay) as well as six individual medals.
