Mayo students win team gold at All-Ireland Championships

THERE was huge success for Sacred Heart School, Westport at the All-Ireland Schools Cross County Championships in Galway on Saturday.

The Mayo students went home with team gold from the Intermediate girls race and international selection for three of their runners after a thrilling day of competition.

Freya Renton led the Sacred Heart team home when she won individual gold in the intermediate girls race. Next across the finish line for the Westport students was Holly Renton in fourth place followed by other team members Aoibhinn McNamara, Erin Walsh, Erin Robinson, Lauren Clarke, Chloe Donnellan and Maud O'Reilly.

Those wonderful results were enough to clinch team gold for the Mayo girls while the Renton twins qualified to represent Ireland at the upcoming Schools Cross Country International in Scotland.

In the Junior girls race May Duckett came home in tenth place and also qualified to run for Ireland at the Schools Cross Country International. She was followed home by her teammates Emma McGing, Aoife Sammon, May Clarken, Claire Ryan, Slaney O'Driscoll, Roisin Malone and Cara Mongey.
