WESTPORT AC members Freya and Holly Renton have added even more medals to their mantle by winning gold and bronze for Ireland at British Cross-Country Challenge – Home Countries International & Celtic International.

The Rentons were part of a four-girl Ireland team that won the gold medal in the U-17 girls 4,200-meter event at the races, which were held at Temple Newsam, Leeds today (Saturday, February 8).

Freya secured individual gold after yet another fantastic run, finishing the event in 12 minutes and 56 seconds, 17 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Her sister, Holly, placed fifth overall and secured a bronze Celtic medal with a time of 13 minutes and 28 seconds.

The 14-year-old twins have won numerous All-Ireland medals for their club, school and country in recent years.

The British Cross-Country Challenge incorporated the Celtic International and Home Countries International, which meant the Rentons secured three titles from one race.
