RTE bosses are said to be delighted with Patrick Kielty's new version of the Late Late Show as figures show he's pulling in more viewers than Ryan Tubridy.

Kielty took over the reigns from the embattled Tubridy last September and signed up to host a 30-episode run of the legendary chat show until 2026.

Now, figures published by the Irish Sun show that Kielty's brand of Late Late is a bigger hit with viewers than Tubridy. Based on 22 episodes of Patrick Kielty's first season, the show is drawing in an average of 452,000 viewers each week.

Ryan Tubridy's final season at the helm of the show saw him attract an average audience of 407,000. The Sun reports that RTE bosses are "over the moon" with the figures and that Kielty has turned the show into an entertainment show, as well as a chat show.

The show has been generally more light-hearted since the Co Down native took over, while has also delivered serious interviews, like that of Sinn Féin First Minister of Northern Ireland Michelle O'Neill.

Patrick has brought a new sense of fun to the show with a mock horse race between himself, Barry Geraghty and Davy Russell a hit with viewers. He also donned a pair of tights to perform alongside Jean Claude Van Damme when he appeared on the show last year.

Kielty is taking a break this week with the show having less episodes than previous years. The show this week is being replaced by romantic movie Brooklyn on the RTE listings.

The final episode of Patrick Kielty's first year in the hotseat will air on May 10.
