A driver got stuck in snow in the Slieve Bloom mountains after their GPS system sent them that way

Gardaí have urged people not to always trust their GPS/Sat Nav systems after a driver got stranded in the snow in the Slieve Bloom mountains earlier today.

"Always take the GPS with a pinch of salt," they said on social media.

"Gardaí in Mountrath, Co. Laois popped out earlier to help this driver after they wrongly wound up in the Slieve Blooms and didn't know a safe route out as the high ground up there impassable," gardaí said.

"Mind yourselves out there!" gardaí urged.

Local gardaí had warned "the road from Kinnity to Killanure is impassable due to heavy snow overnight."

There were similar incidents of drivers ending up the Slieve Bloom mountains in the past during heavy snowfalls with garda assistance required to get them out of difficulty.
