The Knock native played for Kiltimagh/Knock United in recent times, and made many freidns along the winding path of life

MUCH sadness was occasioned in the Knock area with the news of the passing of Barry Byrne. Barry, who was in his forties, was held in special regard by all who knew him around the region.

Barry was a cherished member of the staff at KPS, Knock, for many years and was noted for his ability, devotion to excellence, and his natural rapport with all his colleagues.

He played football with Kiltimagh Knock United in former times, and that link with the club is maintained with the family to this day.

His friends at Carty’s Pub in the village were among those leading the tributes in the aftermath of his passing: “Barry meant so much to so many. To us, he was one of our very best friends.

Loyal, kind, full of character, and always great company, his presence lit up the bar, and his friendship meant the world to us. He will be missed more than words can say.

“While there is no easing the heartbreak of losing someone so loved, there is some small consolation in seeing the incredible send-off Barry received, a reflection of the huge impact he had on people’s lives and how deeply he was loved by all who knew him.

“Our hearts are with Ais, Fíanna and Séan, the Byrne and Lyons families, his wide circle of friends, and everyone who loved him so dearly, including Willow and Ted.

“And from all the stories shared over the past few days, and the amazing rendition of ‘You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’, it only feels right to say thank you Barry for the laughs, the memories, the friendship and the countless good times shared.

“Carty’s (and Knock) will never quite be the same without you. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”

Marguerita Blake from Lahardane was among the many others who joined in the tributes: “I worked with Barry years ago and he was one of the most talented and hard working people I ever met, before and since.

“My heart goes out to you all. I hope all of the wonderful memories you have of Barry will bring you comfort and strength in the lonely days ahead.”

Reposing was in the Marian Funeral Home and interment took place in the local cemetery following Mass in Knock Parish Church celebrated by Fr Richard Gibbons, PP.

Barry will be greatly missed by his wife Aisling (Lyons), their daughter Fianna and son Sean, his mother Mary and father John, his brother John John, sisters Rachel, Gillian and Kelley Anne, his parents-in-law Ann and John (Lyons), sisters-in-law Aislinn and Denise, brothers-in-law, Cormac, Brendan, Christy and Tommy, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, neighbours and many friends.
