Volunteers wanted for to help in award winning Mayo half marathon and 10k

The annual Achill Half Marathon and 10k is celebrating its 21st anniversary on July 4
Organisers of the Achill Half Marathon & 10K which takes place on Saturday, July 4 are appealing for volunteers to help make this year's event another memorable success.
The annual event, now celebrating its 21st anniversary, attracts hundreds of runners and visitors to Achill Island from across Ireland and beyond but volunteers are required to ensure it runs smoothly on the day.
The race, which starts and finishes in Keel, has earned a reputation as one of Ireland's most scenic running events, showcasing the spectacular landscapes of Achill Island along the Wild Atlantic Way.
A team of dedicated volunteers plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth and safe running of the event each year and organisers are now seeking additional volunteers to assist with a range of duties, including stewarding, registration, water stations, medal distribution, parking management and general event support.
“Volunteers are the backbone of this event,” said Patricia Joyce, the chairperson for the organising committee. “Their enthusiasm, friendliness and commitment help create the warm Achill welcome that participants remember long after race day. Whether you can give a few hours or the whole day, we'd love to hear from you.”
Volunteering offers a chance to be part of one of Mayo's most popular sporting events, meet new people, support visiting athletes and contribute to the local community. No previous experience is required, and full guidance will be provided.
Organisers are especially grateful to the loyal local volunteers who have supported the event over many years and are hoping to add to that dedicated team for 2026. As a small token of appreciation, all volunteers will be entered into a special draw on the day, with a selection of lovely prizes generously sponsored by local businesses and supporters of the event.
Anyone interested in volunteering is encouraged to get in touch with Mary B Gallagher in the organising team as soon as possible on 098 20400. Community groups, sports clubs, students and individuals are all welcome.
The Achill Half Marathon & 10K takes place on Saturday, July 4, with the Half Marathon starting at 10.30am and the 10K beginning at 11.15am.
