Uisce Eireann encourages Mayo customers to be mindful of water usage

As people in Mayo as well as across the country and indeed Europe are dealing with a heat wave, Uisce Eireann has issued advice for customers regarding their water usage.
Uisce Éireann continues to monitor water supplies across Co. Mayo, and at present, there is no impact on supply arising from the current spell of warm weather.
However, warmer weather can lead to increased demand and we encourage customers to be mindful of their water use to help maintain stable supplies for homes, businesses and essential services.
How can people help to reduce water usage?
Uisce Eireann advise the public:
Check for leaks: Ensure your home is leak-free by fixing dripping taps, pipes or running overflows. Even small leaks can waste large volumes of water over time.
Turn off the tap: Brushing your teeth with the tap running can use up to 6 litres per minute – turning it off can significantly reduce usage.
Choose showers over baths: A typical bath uses around 80 litres of water, compared to approximately 50 litres for an average shower.
Reduce shower time: Cutting just one minute off your daily shower can save several litres of water each day.
Use appliances efficiently: Always run dishwashers and washing machines with full loads to reduce unnecessary water use.
Be mindful of flushing: Toilets account for a significant portion of household water use – using a reduced flush where possible can help conserve water.
