Supporters climb Croagh Patrick to raise funds for children impacted by cancer

Charity climb in Murrisk supports Cancer Fund for Children and vital services for young people and families across Ireland
Dedicated supporters gathered in Murrisk on Saturday, May 23, to climb Croagh Patrick in aid of Cancer Fund for Children, raising funds to support children and young people affected by cancer.
The fundraising climb brought together participants from across the region, many taking on the iconic Mayo mountain for deeply personal reasons while helping raise awareness and financial support for families navigating a cancer diagnosis.
Speaking after the event, Rachel Fullam, Community Fundraising Officer with Cancer Fund for Children, praised the community effort and spirit of those involved.
“This was an incredibly special day and we are so grateful to everyone who made this event possible,” she said.
From organisers and volunteers to emergency support teams and local businesses, Fullam acknowledged the broad network of people who contributed to the success of the event.
She thanked the Friends of Croagh Patrick committee for supporting planning efforts and maintaining the mountain trail, volunteers who ensured climbers were prepared for the ascent, and members of the Order of Malta who accompanied participants to help ensure safety throughout the climb.
“Lastly, to the great people we climbed with — all who had their own reason and story for climbing — it was a privilege to meet you all,” Fullam added.
Every week across the island of Ireland, approximately 10 children and young people aged between 0 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer. Cancer Fund for Children provides emotional, social and therapeutic support to help families cope with the challenges of diagnosis and treatment.
The charity delivers support in family homes, hospitals and through its specialist therapeutic short-break centre, Daisy Lodge, in Newcastle, Co. Down. A second centre is currently under construction on the shores of Lough Corrib in Cong, Co. Mayo, expanding access to services for families in the west of Ireland.
