Mayo island highlighted as one of the busiest summer EV charging locations

Achill Tourism welcomed news that the EZO charging facility in Achill Sound is one of the company's busiest
Achill Tourism has welcomed recent national media coverage highlighting a Mayo island as one of Ireland's busiest locations for electric vehicle charging during the summer months.
Irish electric vehicle charging company, EZO highlighted their charging facility in Achill Sound as one of the company's busiest in an article in the Sunday Independent last week which highlighted the growing demand for charging facilities in rural Ireland.
Commenting on the revelation, Chris McCarthy, Manager of Achill Tourism said this was a strong testament to the island's ongoing popularity as a key visitor destination.
“The work being undertaken by Oliver Chatten and the team at EZO is an excellent example of how innovation and investment can address the challenges of rural electrification. Developing accessible EV charging infrastructure is essential for supporting sustainable travel and ensuring destinations like Achill Island cater to the evolving needs of visitors.
“Seeing Achill highlighted as one of EZO's top charging locations this summer is extremely encouraging. It demonstrates the importance of delivering vital infrastructure that brings visitors directly into our local communities, where they support local businesses and contribute to the economy. We congratulate Oliver and his team on their progress and welcome continued development in infrastructure supporting rural communities and tourism destinations,” Mr McCarthy said.
Tourism plays a significant role in the Achill economy, supporting accommodation providers, restaurants, cafés, shops, attractions, activity operators and other businesses throughout the island. Visitors are drawn to Achill for its spectacular landscapes, beaches, outdoor activities, heritage and the warm welcome offered by the local community. Achill Tourism continues to promote the island as a year-round destination, working with local businesses and tourism partners to encourage visitors to explore Achill, stay longer and support the local economy.
Achill Tourism stated that this feature underscores the critical role of robust infrastructure and services in rural areas, ensuring Achill remains accessible and welcoming to visitors while fostering long-term tourism sustainability. They also welcome this national recognition and appreciate the valuable contribution visitors make to local employment, businesses, and the wider community.
