VIDEO: Statue of late GAA president unveiled in Mayo home town

Dr Mickey Loftus from Crossmolina was first GAA president from County Mayo

A big crowd gathered in the town centre of Crossmolina in North Mayo to have the statue of the most famous son of the town unveiled.

Also a new exhibition was opened with numerable photos, items and memorabilia about Loftus' life are on display in the Civic Centre, compiled from Dr Mickey's private archive by his children and grandchildren.

GAA president Jarlath Burns would not miss the occasion. The Loftus family was present, including current Mayo County Council Cathaoirleach and Dr Mickey' son, Michael.

Mayo GAA chairman Seamus Tuohy, TDs Dara Calleary and Alan Dillon also participated.
