AUDIO Football Podcast #11 League Final preview

Sport - Football Podcast

Experimenting with new players while retaining our Division One status was widely accepted to be James Horan's brief for his first National League campaign back as Mayo manager. He managed those twin aims fairly well over the seven games, so much so that we're now looking at a widening pool of playing talent from which to pick a starting fifteen for the Championship and it also means that, this coming Sunday, we've got a League Division One decider against Kerry to look forward to.

In this bonus episode of the Mayo News football podcast we preview Sunday's National League final. Co-hosts Rob Murphy and John Gunnigan of the Mayo GAA Blog are joined by Mayo News Sports Editor Mike Finnerty to chat about Sunday's big game and what it means for the county to be in it.

Rob then speaks with Mayo News columnist Billy Joe Padden who considers the importance of Sunday's final from the perspective of the players and who gives his thoughts on which county may have the greater drive to succeed on the day.  After that Rob goes behind opposition lines, welcoming back onto the podcast Tralee-based Mayoman Maurice Horan, who gives us plenty of insight into how they're thinking about this final down in Kerry and who speculates about how the Kingdom might line out at Croke Park.

Rounding of this bonus preview edition, Rob, John and Mike reminisce about the last League final win - back in 2001 over Galway - the county enjoyed, following which Mike provides an update on the position regarding injuries in the Mayo squad ahead of the big game.
