Burrishoole's journey ended by All-Ireland champs

THE great Burrishoole adventure came to an end in today’s Connacht LGFA senior club championship final when they were bettered by the reigning provincial and All-Ireland champions.
Galway’s Kilkerrin Clonberne were clear and deserving winners in the end, but the scoreline only tells half the story.
Burrishoole were excellent for long periods and defended doggedly.
However, the Clew Bay women found it hard to transition from defence to attack in the face of a powerful Galway challenge and they never looked like getting the goals they needed to put it up to the champions.
Kilkerrin-Clonberne had the howling wind and rain on their backs in the opening half but found it hard to locate an avenue to the posts as Burrishoole defended brilliantly. However, a flurry of points from the Galway women just before half-time left the scoreboard reading 0-8 to 0-2 at the interval.
Burrishoole needed a good start to the second half, but found possession hard to come by as Kilkerrin-Clonberne poured forward with Lynsey Noone and Olivia Divilly to the fore.
Burrishoole tried to get on the front foot and Rachel Baynes, Feena McManamon Aisling McNulty and Ava Kelly tried to move the ball into dangerous areas, but Kilkerrin-Clonberne were having none of it.
The deciding moment of the day arrived after 43 minutes when full-forward Ailish Morrisey crashed the ball to the net to put her side into a 1-11 to 0-3 lead.
In truth, that was the end of the affair and despite a powerful and determined effort from the Mayo champions they couldn’t make any impact on their esteemed opponents.
Kilkerrin-Clonberne were crowned Connacht champions for the fifth year in succession.
