Mayo NY all set for big final

MAYO GFC New York meet Cork New York in the intermediate football championship final next Saturday, August 27 at 6.30 pm EST at Gaelic Park, NY. The game will be live streamed on the New York GAA Facebook page.
Mayo go into the game as league champions having won all their games in 2022 under manager Ger McCartan (Down), and his selectors Ray Coyle (Ballyvary), Mick Burke (Tralee) and Marcus Hannick (Killala).
On the playing squad, the likes of Ray Holian (Balla), Matthew Queenan (Lahardane) and Tom Cunniffe (Castlebar Mitchels) will all be in action, while Pauric Maye from The Neale is the Mayo GFC NY chairman.
Of the Mayo contingent in the panel and officers, Balla, Castlebar, Lahardane, Claremorris, The Neale, Killala, Parke, Louisburgh, Westport, Belmullet and Mayo Gaels are all represented.
The club was last in the final in 2010 and over the last number of years has built a strong home base of players using a draft system to bring through American-born players from Junior clubs such as St Raymond’s, St Patrick’s Connecticut, Rangers GFC NY and Shannon Gaels.
The club also have several players from Galway, and players from Roscommon, Sligo, Donegal, Tyrone, Down, Waterford, Limerick and Dublin make up the rest of the panel.
The Mayo GFC NY club was founded by Mike Morley from Claremorris.
