MAYO are “lucky to get away with” paying a €10,000 fine for not playing in last month’s FBD Connacht League final in New York, according to John Prenty.
The Connacht Council Secretary was responding to comments by Mayo GAA Board PRO Aiden McLoughlin, who told the Irish Examiner that the punishment was “a bit excessive” and expressed the hope that the sum “would be reduced” without the need for an official appeal.
But Prenty told The Mayo News: “That fine is imposed. [There’s] no prospect for an appeal, and no prospect for a reduction. They’re lucky to get away with what they got away with.”
The Ballyhaunis-based official had initially warned that Mayo faced possible expulsion from next year’s FBD League over their last-minute refusal to travel to New York.
