William Chambers

Cloggernaugh, Glenhest, Newport, Co Mayo

William (Billy Ring) was born in the wilds of Derrybrock near the village of Shramore in 1937. The family eventually relocated to the village of Glenhest where he put down his roots and raised his family with the unwavering support of his wife Kathleen (née Garvey).
Always open to new ideas he expanded and improved his farm, purchasing several holdings and experimenting with new breeds and approaches. He was never afraid of taking on something new!
Billy delighted in fun, telling tales of running mobile cinemas in tents in rural Mayo, the challenges of agricultural contracting in the 1950s, haymaking in the north of England, his experiences of visiting the United States in the 1970s, or his first visit to Trinity College in the 1980s.
Billy knew people everywhere and whenever he met them, he would always stand for a chat. So many of them returned the compliment as he lay in rest in Newport.
In his “retirement” he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren sharing his wisdom, his love of farming, and the unique purple potatoes from his vegetable patch.
Billy was just beginning to enjoy the Ram season when he was taken, it won’t be the same without him. But do call as he had a couple of good ones ready to go.
His family would like to thank everyone who visited, attended his funeral, or shared their condolences, or supported the family in any way.
