Belclare, Westport, Co Mayo
Michael was born on June 14, 1959, to his parents Vinny and Bridie and grew up in Belclare together with his sister Geraldine. Michael’s early school days were spent in Kiladangan National School and he later attended Westport Vocational School.
After completing his apprenticeship in carpentry, Michael went on to work with several local contractors and became an esteemed master of his trade. In addition to working as a carpenter, Michael also farmed his land, always taking great pride in the care he gave to his livestock. Michael had a particular affection for Connemara ponies and regularly
attended Horse and Pony Shows where more often than not he returned home happily with a rosette, and sometimes even a cup!
Michael also had a great grá for football and often travelled the country to supported the Mayo team, always in the hope that they would bring Sam home!
Michael was a man of great faith and this helped to carry him through his long and challenging illness.
Michael will be remembered as a kind, caring and sincere gentleman who loved and lived his life fully at home in Belclare (or as he called it Knockaraha West) with his beloved wife Carmel and in more recent times his much adored dog Queenie.
May his soul rest in peace.
