Marietta O’Boyle (née O’Malley)

Tonragee East, Achill, Co Mayo

Marietta O’Boyle aged 80 years passed away peacefully surrounded by her family following a short illness in the wonderful care of Mayo Hospice on December 14, 2021.
Marietta was born on August 11,1941, to the late Ellen and Patrick O’Malley and was the youngest of eight. Marietta was born in Tonragee and went to school there. She worked in England for a short period and returned home to care for her mother Ellen. It was then she met and fell in love with Michael O’Boyle from Cloughmore, Achill and they married in 1967 and had their family, Aidan, Denise and Raymond. Marietta was a kind, loving and devoted mother to her family and later as grandmother to her four grandchildren - Clara, Liam, Laoise and Niamh who she and Michael adored. She had a special way with children. Marietta was hard working and enjoyed the outdoors, be it doing hay or turf when she was younger prior to developing arthritis. She loved gardening and was proud of her window boxes. She had a great love of animals and nature.
Marietta loved to drive to Mulranny or Achill Sound at her own pace and was never one to break the speed limit. She was very well known and popular and enjoyed meeting her friends on her shopping trips. In her later years, Marietta enjoyed short breaks in Salthill in Co Galway and spending time in Westport but she always loved returning home to Tonragee. Marietta was very family oriented and always there for people. She was very close to her siblings and relatives near and far and she kept in contact by sending cards and letters. Her home was open to everyone and there was always a big fire on, she had a warm personality and enjoyed the company of others and there was always stories and laughter. Marietta made friends easily and had many close lifelong friendships she cherished. She will be fondly remembered for her generosity, her humour and her kindness.  She had a deep faith. It was evident the high regard there was for Marietta in the community from the large number of people who attended the wake to pay their respects, lined the roads for her removal, sent messages of condolence and Mass cards and floral tributes.
Marietta was a cherished loving wife, mother and sister. She is deeply mourned by her daughter Denise, sons Aidan and Raymond, daughter-in-law Pamela, son-in-law Brendan, grandchildren Clara, Liam, Laoise and Niamh, her brother Tommy and sister Eileen Collins and brother-in-law Kevin Collins, nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.
Marietta was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Mary O’Hara and Bridgie Kay and by her brothers Joe, Pakie and James O’Malley and by her husband Michael who died on August 7, 2020.
She is sadly missed. May her gentle soul rest in peace.
