Mike McNamara

Kinnadoohy, Louisburgh, Co Mayo

Mike McNamara, aged 91 years old, has passed away peacefully, at his home on January 3, 2022. He was born in 1930 and is predeceased by parents Mary and Patrick McNamara. He was one of six children. Mike’s sister Mary resides in Massachusetts, USA. He is predeceased by sisters Nora and Delia and brothers John and Martin.
Mike was a cherished and loving husband and father, he is deeply mourned by his wife Rose, daughters Mary Jo and Pauline, sons Michael John and James, daughter-in-law Aisling, Pauline’s financé Tom, grandchildren Evie and Michael, mother-in-law Julia, sister Mary, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended McNamara family.
In his early years, Mike spent some time working in England during hay season and on the roads, he returned home to take care of the family farm. He married Rose in 1982, who he thought the world of. He was very proud of his four children, and always said they were a great help in the bog and on the farm. He always liked to see a fine stack of turf built outside. His livelihood was farming, he reared cattle and sheep, and was especially fond of his sheep dogs.
His passion in life was fishing, either in his currach or off the rocks. We recall endless summers on the rocks with him fishing, and enjoying a bread and fish supper afterwards, which he described as ‘Our Lord food’.
Mike was an avid reader, and kept up to date on current affairs, sports and politics. He was very sociable and enjoyed going out to play cards or darts with friends and neighbours. He had a special kind of wit and could always put a smile on our faces.
In recent years, as his memory was declining, he took comfort in being surrounded by family, and enjoyed going for walks and drives. He is sadly missed. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

In life, we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still
In our hearts you hold a place,
That no one else will ever fill.
God bless, until we meet again.
