Slingane, Clogher, Westport and late of Althore, Cregganbaun, Louisburgh, Co Mayo

John Joe passed away on February 17, 2021 in Mayo University Hospital, Castlebar at the age of 56.
John Joe was the youngest child of Michael and Margaret Jennings of Althore, Louisburgh and was raised in the country way of life.
At the age of six, John Joe went to St Mary’s School for Special Needs in County Louth. This was a heart-breaking time for the family, but John Joe thrived with each passing year that he attended.
John Joe always enjoyed coming home to his parents in Louisburgh and would enjoy the comforts of being surrounding by his brothers and sisters.
John Joe was the apple of his parent’s eyes and it was shown with the fondness and love they had for him.
After his time spent in Co Louth, John Joe moved closer to home and attended schools in Castlebar and finally in his adult life, he began attending Carrowbeg Enterprise in Westport.
Following the death of his mother Margaret in 1992, John Joe began a new life with his sister Rose and her husband Tommy where he was cared for by them both, supported by their children Jennifer and Jason.
John Joe lived in Pinewoods in Westport during the week and enjoyed the trip to Slingane on a Friday evening and to be greeted by his dogs Ross and Rex.
While visiting Slingane, he loved listening to music and could be heard from his bedroom singing to the latest tunes. He also loved to write in his notebooks and putting his thoughts down on paper.
John Joe loved to travel and he enjoyed many trips to various places like Tipperary, Dublin and even Paris.
John Joe was fortunate to work in some of the businesses around Westport over the years; this is where he enjoyed chatting and having the craic with other people and building friendships along the way. He was a real people person and everyone that met him enjoyed his company.
From 2008, John Joe got the opportunity to live independently. This was very exciting for him and he loved the freedom of being his own man and that is something that he treasured.
As a person born with special needs, John Joe’s achievements surpassed all expectations and as a family we were so proud of everything he accomplished.
We will forever miss his great smile and gentle nature. And in our hearts the memories of him will never be forgotten.
John Joe was preceded in death by his father Michael, mother Margaret and brother Michael and will be sadly missed by, Rose, Tommy, Jennifer, Jason, sisters Mary, Noreen, Margaret, Ann and Bridie, brother Pat and extended family.
