Bicester, Oxfordshire, UK and formerly of Main Street, Ballinrobe, Co Mayo
Martin was born November 10, 1942, in Main Street, Ballinrobe and passed away on December 27, 2020, in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, surrounded by his family.
Martin’s formative years were spent happily in Ballinrobe with his mum, Agnes, dad, Richard and his three sisters – Angela, Pat and Jo. Martin loved to spend an evening reminiscing about those happy times and despite living in the UK for over 30 years he never forgot his roots. Many an evening was spent with his wife Mary watching ‘Ireland West Music TV’.
Martin moved to the UK in 1962 and began his career in aeronautics. It was during this time he met Mary Holly and they married in Bicester in 1970. They went on to have six children – Siobhán, Eileen, Ciarán, Ruth, Gena and John. In 1981 they relocated back to Ireland (Shannon, Co Clare) to bring up their children. Martin was a devoted husband and father and worked hard to provide for his family.
With many of his children studying and working in the UK, Martin and Mary returned to Bicester in 1998. Martin retrained and became an adult education teacher – a job which suited his kind and patient personality. He retired in 2010 which allowed him to enjoy one of his favourite past times – travelling.
Martin will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who always had time for people, especially his family. He will be dreadfully missed by all, but particularly his wife Mary, his children and his 16 grandchildren: Holly, Abigail, Harvey, Libby, Nathaniel, Florence, Connie, Maisie, Sam, Fintan, Josphine, Juliette, Lochlann, Feidhlim, Aiden and Alexandria. Also missed by his sister, brother-in-law, sons-in-law and daughters-in-law.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
