Mace, Aughagower, Westport
Bridgie was born on August 8, 1924 to Nora and Tom Lehane, Bunrower.
She had four brother’s Pat (Westport) RIP, John (Altamount Street) RIP, Tom (Enniskillan), Jimmy (London) and two sisters Mary (Fr Angelus Park) RIP and Winnie (St Mary’s Crescent).
She saw many changes in her lifetime and had many happy memories of growing up in Bunrower. On occasion the accordion would be taken out by her Father or Mother and they would dance half sets, jigs and reels with plenty of laughter and song.
She met the love of her life Michael Flynn (Bohaun) RIP while he was working the land nearby.
A Birmingham Company called “Lucas” came over to Westport to recruit workers. She was hired and like so many at that time emigrated to England. She made so many lifetime friends along the way.
Michael joined her some time later. They made a happy life together, going on to have three daughters Kathleen, Marion and Bridie. After 20 years in England they fulfilled their dream of returning to Ireland to farm and enjoy a slower pace of life.
Later the death of their daughter Marion left a huge void in the hearts of the family.
Bridgie worked side by side with Michael on the land. She loved to work in the vegetable garden and grew a variety of vegetables and fruit. She was renowned for her tasty brown bread and scones. Bridgie loved music and dancing and enjoyed a good dance or céilí.
She adored her Grandchildren Robert, Jennifer and Ciarán.
She is sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all her family and those that knew her.
When tomorrow starts without me,
Please try to understand,
That an Angel came and called my name,
And took me by the hand.
The Angel said my place was
ready in Heaven far above,
And that I’d have to leave
behind all those I dearly love.
But when I walked through Heaven’s gate’s,
I felt so much at home, for God looked down,
Smiled at me, and told me “welcome home”.
So when tomorrow starts without me,
Don’t think we’re far apart,
For every time you think of me,
I’m right there in your heart.
- Sadly missesd by her daughters Kathleen, Bridie and families.
