Cashel, Ayle, Westport, Co Mayo

Andrew passed away unexpectedly on August 31, 2020 in his 91st year at Mayo University Hospital.
Andrew was born on March 10, 1930, to John and Norah Gibbons (née Heneghan) in Cashel, Ayle.  Andrew was the second of two children with his eldest sister Mary Kate (deceased).
At four years of age Andrew’s father died and  he was just sixteen when his mother passed away.
During that time, his eldest sister Mary Kate emigrated to England. She remained there for her working life before returning home to live with Andrew for a few years before she died in 2000.
Andrew had a great interest in sport. In his youth he played football for Islandeady GAA and had the opportunity to welcome the Sam McGuire in Mayo in 1950 and 1951.  He enjoyed following all sports.
Andrew worked with Mayo County Council while also working the family farm.
He enjoyed the company of his good friends, relatives and neighbours and looked forward to the weekly mobile shop.
He enjoyed the outdoors and cycled to his destinations up to a few years ago.
A man of many talents, Andrew was admired for his skills, particularly in fixing bicycles and providing haircuts to others in bygone days.
Andrew is remembered as a quite gentleman who was a loyal friend and kind neighbour.
May his gentle soul rest in peace.
