Pat Heraty

Oughty, Liscarney, Westport

The death took place of Pat Heraty on August 2, 2020 peacefully at Mayo General Hospital, after a short illness.
Pat was born in Oughty and lived almost all his life there, bar a few years  he spent working in Leeds. It was in Leeds he met his beloved wife Kathleen, and they were soon married and shortly afterwards moved home to Oughty to take over the family farm.
Pat loved farming, and he was never idle, always finding jobs to do, from cutting hay and turf to rounding up the sheep in the hill, always with a few dogs by his side.
Pat enjoyed the simple things in life, reading the Independent, The Mayo News and the Farmer’s Journal were always part of his week.
He enjoyed a game of cards and did his best to teach the grandchildren how to play.
Pat enjoyed his weekly trip to Maam Cross Mart, keeping an eye on prices and making an odd purchase.
Watching Mayo playing was the highlight of his summer and he always hoped this year would be the one they’d bring home Sam.
Pat enjoyed his few pints of ‘flat beer’ at the weekends, and like Cinderella he was always home by midnight! He enjoyed the craic in the pub and always got involved in the discussion of the evening.
Pat was a family man and if Cait and the family were happy, he was happy.
Pat will be greatly missed by his wife Kathleen, children Michael, Margaret, Kevin, Caroline, Declan, Ann, Tony, Aisling and Tracey and their families, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbours.
May he rest in peace.
